Liverpool turned in a very impressive display to hold Man City to a 1-1 draw at Anfield yesterday, in what should have been a victory for the Reds.

Joe Hart had his fair share of denying Liverpool their elusive winner towards the final whistle with some stunning saves to keep out the likes of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and Charlie Adam.

Vincent Kompany had initially broken the deadlock with a goal that, as replays showed, came off his shoulder, but nonetheless a goal that stood. A wonderful run at the nearpost and a deflection off his shoulder gave Pepe Reina no chance, although Dirk Kuyt and Glen Johnson could have done better jobs with their marking.

Liverpool were behind for not more than 110 seconds, as Charlie Adam’s shot took a wicked deflection off Manchester City’s other center-back Joleon Lescott to take Joe Hart in completely the wrong direction, and it resulted in an equalizer for Liverpool.

Another key moment of the game was when Mario Balotelli got sent off (after coming off the bench just minutes earlier), collecting two yellow cards within minutes.

Liverpool went marauding at the Man City goal in the last 15 minutes of the game, nearly scoring on a number of occasions, but it was not to be their day as Man City got their share of the spoils after a truly enthralling 90 minutes of football at Anfield.
