By on December 1, 2011

Liverpool have confirmed that key midfielder Lucas will miss the rest of the season with an knee ligament injury.

Lucas was forced off during Liverpool’s 2-0 Carling cup win over Chelsea in mid-week and the initial fears were he could have seriously damaged his knee. Those fears have proved to be correct, as the Reds confirmed on their website this afternoon that the Brazilian an sustained an injury to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee.

The midfielder will now undergo surgery and will be out for the rest of the season.

Im a United fan but Im not on here to gloat. It is a tragedy for the boy because he was having the best season of his Liverpool career up till now.

I hope that the injury is not so bad as first thought and that Lucas makes a complete recovery.

As you would expect though Liverpool fans, I still hope United whip you when we next meet (although I am not too confident after our run of poor form)

Injuries are common in football but the team will carry on. Shelvy and Spearing are able and better replacements. Nothing to worry.

Yes the team will carry on but I think you are wrong about Shelvey and Spearing being “better replacements”. If they are better wouldn’t KK have played them instead of Lucas???

Lucas is in the form of his life and arguably playing better than Mascherano in that holding role. This is a big blow for Liverpool no doubt. Hopefully Shelveey and Spearing will step up like you said.
