Man Utd Transfer News: Fergie Linked With €30m Brazilian

By on December 6, 2011

Manchester United are lining up a January move for AC Milan defender Thiago Silva, according to reports in Italy.

The Brazilian stopper has developed into one of the best central defenders in Europe since moving to Milan from Fluminense in 2009, and his form has alerted the likes of Man Utd, Man City and Real Madrid, who have all been linked with the 27-year-old in previous transfer windows.

However more recent reports in Italy have suggested Sir Alex Ferguson will step up his interest in January, as he looks for a suitable replacement in the ageing Rio Ferdinand, who has struggled with form and fitness this season.

Ferige could face stiff competition for Silva’s signature, with Chelsea and Man City thought to be considering entering the race should the defender decide to leave the San Siro. Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add to his defensive options after a difficult start to the season, while City are in talks with AC Milan over Carlos Tevez and may try and include Silva in any deal. Milan are thought to value their man at around €30m.
