€12.5m Striker Speaks Out On Wanting Tottenham Move

Bryan Ruiz has revealed he wanted to move to Tottenham before eventually completing a €12.5m (£10.5m) move to London rivals Fulham in the summer.

Bryan Ruiz has revealed he wanted to move to Tottenham before eventually completing a €12.5m (£10.5m) move to London rivals Fulham in the summer.

Ruiz was linked with several clubs throughout the summer, including Tottenham and Newcastle, but found himself at Craven Cottage on deadline day completing a €12.5m move from Dutch side FC Twente. The striker has failed to live up to his price-tag so far, only finding the net once in ten appearances this season.

However, the 26-year-old has claimed his heart was set on a move to White Hart Lane and described Spurs as a club he could not turn down. The only problem was Tottenham didn’t follow up their initial interest and Ruiz revealed it was the lure of “attractive financial terms” and a conversation with Martin Jol that persuaded him to join the Cottagers:

‘I did not want Fulham. Previously Tottenham were interested. This is a club that you say “yes” to.”  Ruiz told Dutch magazine Voetbal International:

‘On August 30 Fulham arrived in the bidding. My manager called and said there was an agreement between the clubs and that we were going to London. I hesitated again, but he convinced me.

‘Attractive financial terms and a conversation with Martin Jol won me over.’
