Wenger – I Won’t Be Buying A New Midfielder

By on December 12, 2011

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out buying any midfield reinforcements in January, amid reports he’s interested in Lyon’s Yoann Gourcuff.

Reports last week linked the Gunners with a January move for the 25-year-old after the playmaker endured a difficult first half of the season in Ligue 1. Gourcuff has struggled with injury in recent months and was hoping for a move to reignite his career and make a late push for the French Euro 2012 squad.

However, Wenger claims that although he is a fan of the Frenchman’s, he has no intention of adding a new midfielder to his ranks.

‘He is a player I like a lot and I believe people have been very critical towards him in France,’ said Wenger.

‘However, we won’t be in the winter market for any midfield positions considering that our players are back from injuries.’
