Arsenal Transfer News: Podolski Opens Door To £16m Gunners Switch

By on December 15, 2011

Lukas Podolski has opened the door to a potential move to Arsenal by revealing he will move abroad when he leaves Cologne.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the German striker and have sent scouts to watch him in action on several occasions this season.  They will have been impressed by what they have seen as the 26-year-old has scored 14 goals in 15 league games this term, including a superb strike during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Mainz.

Podolski’s contract expires in two years and he has no intention in extending, leaving Cologne in a position where they will have to sell either in January or next summer if they are to see a return for their star man, with a bid of around £16m thought to be enough to persuade Cologne into selling next month.

Arsenal are one of several clubs showing an interest in signing the German international, and Arsene Wenger confirmed this week he is on the look out for a striker this winter, and Podolski opened the door to a switch to the Premier League when he said:

“If I leave Cologne, I’d be tempted to go abroad. It’s very hard to imagine moving within the same league.”
