Tottenham Launch £5m Bid For Ex-Liverpool Stopper

Tottenham have submitted a £5m offer for ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov, according to reports in Holland today, after scouting the player for months.

Tottenham have submitted a £5m (€6M) offer for ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov, according to reports in Holland today.

Harry Redknapp is on the look out for a young stopper to take over from the evergreen Brad Freidel, who is still performing at the top level despite being 40 years of age, but can’t go on forever (can he?!).

Current understudy Carlo Cudicini (38) is also approaching the end of his career while Heurelho Gomes is almost certain to move on in the January window. So Redknapp is keen to add a long-term replacement to his squad now so he can learn from the experienced duo.

Mihaylov, 23, has been scouted on several occasions by Spurs scouts whilst playing for his club side FC Twente this season and with the January transfer window approaching, it seems Spurs have followed up their interest with a firm bid.

Liverpool fans may be familiar with Mihaylov as the keeper spent almost 3 years at Anfield before making the move to Twente for £1.5m in 2010, although he failed to make a single first team appearance on Merseyside.
