Everton have announced the signing of midfielder Darron Gibson from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The Toffee’s have been in talks with the Republic of Ireland international over the past few days and he has now officially joined the club on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The 24-year-old will wear the number 4 shirt and is in-line to make his debut during Saturday’s game against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Gibson came through the ranks at United going on to make 60 appearances and scoring 10 goals for the club, which is a decent goal return for a bit-part player. However, after struggling to establish himself as a first team regular and with his contract set to expire in June, Gibson has decided to leave Old Trafford in search of first team football.

David Moyes is short of funds and the signing of an experienced international who’s played under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson for a fee of around £2m should be seen as a great piece of business by Everton fans.
