Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal.com that he won’t be signing a left back this month, due to Kieran Gibbs returning to full training next week.

Arsene feels with the imminent return of Gibbs, and the fact Vermaelen and Sagna are also back to full fitness, he no longer requires cover at left back.  He told Arsenal.com:

“Gibbs is back in full training on Monday, and Vermaelen can [also] play left back and he is fit. [Andre] Santos will be fit in March,” he said.

“Three left backs, plus Sagna – who can play there – is four. We are not [shopping for a] left back.”

How predictable is this guy? I said at the start of the month not to believe the rumours and that we wouldn’t sign a left back. It was obvious that Wenger would just try and get by with what he had until Sagna and Gibbs returned. He was never going to bring someone in just to cover 3 or 4 weeks.

I have no problem with Arsene not buying a full back at this stage, there is no point bringing one in now. He’s missed the chance for a full back signing to make a difference.

But the boss set himself up for criticism when after the win against QPR on 31st December, he said the following to the Arsenal website:

“It would be stupid for us to drop points because we don’t have a left back.”

Well guess what Arsene, you didn’t bring in an emergency full back and we dropped nine points. My point here is, lets not make the same mistake twice. It’s clear we need another striker to support Van Persie and possibly even a creative midfielder now Jack’s suffered a set back, so go and bring in a couple of players before the window closes.

We don’t want to look back in 2 months and regret not bringing in reinforcements. It happened last January when we took a risk and didn’t sign a centre back and Vermaelen was subsequently ruled out for the season. Van Persie has carried the goal-scoring burden for long enough and Arteta and Ramsey have been over-played in midfield.

We need a striker and creative midfielder Arsene, learn from your mistakes and make it happen!
