[Video Goals] Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool: Rooney Double Sends United Top

Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to a double from Wayne Rooney, with Luis Suarez grabbing a late goal in reply for the visitors.

In a cagey first half with few chances it wasn’t surprising that the score was 0-0 at half time. However, Wayne Rooney came out for the second half and put the home side firmly in control with a quick-fire double. From a corner, the England striker fired home a volley from close range giving Pepe Reina no chance. Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing then gave away possession on the edge of his own box with Valencia teeing up Rooney to cooly finish for to make it 2-0.

Liverpool got back in the game with little over 10 minutes remaining when United failed to deal with a free kick and Luis Suarez poked home from close range for 2-1. Neither side could add to the scoreline and United secured a 2-1 win that sends them above rivals City in the league table. Watch highlights here.
