Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has insisted he won’t try and persuade current Gunners skipper Robin van Persie to join him at Barcelona.

The 24-year-old spent eight seasons at the Emirates making 303 appearances for the club before eventually being granted his wish to return to boyhood club Barcelona last summer.

Speculation has surrounded Robin van Persie’s future with the dutchman entering the final year of his contract in June but Fabregas is quoted on Sky Sports News as saying that although he still speaks to his former team mate, it’s not to try and sway his decision on where his future lies:

“I talk to him but not about Barca,”

“He is an Arsenal player and he knows what is best for him. I only wish the best of luck for him before he makes whatever decision he will make.”

In a world where Arsenal fans are used to Barca players openly ‘tapping up’ our stars, its nice to see there is now someone at the Nou Camp who has an ounce of respect.

Give Cesc some respect. He talks well about Arsenal since leaving. The guy left to win trophies you can’t hate him for that. I doubt he’d tap up an ex team mate. Though his colleagues are a different story.

Be careful what one wishes for. Arsenal curse is always there. No medals for fabregas this year. Madrid to win la liga and i fancy them for champ league. Barca r on the decline. They have peaked. As captain of arsenal, iwas disappointed he left. We made ya cesc.and at times when i seen ya at big games when things got tough and your head down good luck to ya. Mclnltock adams viera you never were. Goin back to catalan dont buy in to. Every irish scots english live away all there lives. Medals. You will have fewer than you think cesc. Rvp. Beware.
