Sunderland beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Stadium of Light to all but end the Merseysiders hopes of a top-four finish, with Arsenal’s on-loan striker Nicklas Bendtner scoring the winner.

In a cagey game of relatively few clear-cut chances, it took a slice of fortune for the deadlock to be broken. Frazier Campbell hit the post with a 20 yard drive only for the ball to ricochet off the head of Pepe Reina and back on to the post before falling at the feet of Bendtner, who made no mistake from close range.

Substitute Steven Gerrard almost equalised late on but Sunderland held on to record a vital win and close to within two points of Liverpool in the table. Kenny Dalglish’s men are now 10 points off fourth-placed Arsenal. Watch video highlights from the game here:

It really doesn’t matter who plays or who doesn’t play – KD just hasn’t got any quality anywhere. Any combination is a losing one – the team not only doesn’t score goals but never even looks like it might. KD is making an absolute fool of himself with his comments after the matches – please bow out soon. Unfortunately, the absolutely dreadful signings will remain after KD goes.
