Wilshere: I’d Rather Win The World Cup Than The Champions League With Arsenal

Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he would rather win the World Cup with England than the Champions League trophy with his club side Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he would rather win the World Cup with England than the Champions League with Arsenal.

Former Gunner Ian Wright asked Wilshere via Twitter if he would rather win the World Cup with England or the Champions League with Arsenal, to which Jack replied with an emphatic “world cup with England mate!”.

Wilshere WC tweet

Really?! Now i realise the World Cup is looked upon as the pinnacle of football and it will no doubt be every footballers dream to lift the cup with their country, but i must say i was a little surprised at how easily Jack answered the question. He’s got a fair bit of stick from his Twitter followers for this, which i think is ridiculous, but i do think he could have thought a little more about his answer.

The Champions League is arguably a better footballing standard that the World Cup and just as difficult to win, given the fact a team has to first play a full season just to qualify, followed by a gruelling series of group games and knockouts.

It’s no doubt a tough question to answer for any footballer and fair play if Wilshere would rather win the World Cup, i’ve got no problem with that. He is clearly a patriotic guy who loves to play for his country. But i would have liked him to at least show The Arsenal a little love and reply with something like; “Hmmmm, tough one Wrighty. Both would be amazing, but the World Cup just edges it”.

What do you Gooners think? Should Wilshere have shown a little more ‘love’ to Arsenal? Or is a World Cup win greater than any club competition?

Damn right. I love arsenal but the fact is I’d prefer winning the world cup without question. England is more important than arsenal, n winning the world cup is much much more historic than winning the champions league. How anyone has a problem with this is ridiculous.

Mills, I agree toooootally with you.

There is no question about the choice. It is not a question to be hypocritical about. Every serious footballer would love to win the world cup with his country more than anything else. No doubt about that.

WHats better, being an arsenal legend or being an England legend? In fairness I’d say that was a rhetorical question.

Wilshere should have shown a little more thinking

Why? Every footballer dreams on putting their national shirt on, so winning the world cup in that shirt is the pinnacle of any footballers career. Why people don’t understand this is shocking, but then to take it to the next level an give the lad grief about it is disgusting.

Listen you lot. I follow Jack on twitter and believe me, he loves Arsenal more than anything! Arguably the World cup is the ultimate comp you can lift. You are never really considered a true great until you win it! Does it need any more excuse than that?

The Champion’s League occurs every year and if you win it maybe you’ll be remembered by your club’s fans for as long as it takes to win the next one.

The World Cup happens only ever four years and, if you win it, you’ll be remembered by the whole country for the rest of your life.

    He’s right.

The World cup is the ultimate. If he doesn’t win it,Messi might have come&left the stage without a name beyond Europe(read as UEFA). Win it with Argentina&he conquers the world(read as FIFA).

Although winning the world cup i s a better option, but he shouldn’t have been blunt with it. It would only hurt Arsenal fans who aren’t British e.g ME.

Country comes before club, no matter what the country, and if your offended by his bluntness then you clearly ain’t as patriotic as you should be.

Ofcourse he want to! Dosent everyone?
Ofcourse he would need to not be injured and train hard for his club

Of course he want to win the World Cup with England because that he know the chances of England winning World Cup is almost to none. He know Arsenal capable of winning champion league soon after the performances against Milan and Barca last year. So winning Champion league is not an imposible dream but winning World Cup is an imposible dream.

??? So because he wants to win the world cup he’s feeling big. Let’s poll the entire premiership and see how many players say the same. You can bet your ass at least 95% will say the same, and I’d be offended by any englishman who’d prefer glory with their club before their country.

Im sorry if this offends anyone and I know I’ll get loads of moaning abusive comments but I always see these comments moaning about what players have said and threats about ticket prices and not making enough signings but they are mostly from people that are not only not from Islington but not even from the UK. Because of this comment by Jack loads of people are moaning like this tool:

    Jerry says:

Although winning the world cup i s a better option because that is Messi’s only wrong doing, but he shouldn’t have been blunt with it. It would only hurt Arsenal fans who aren’t British e.g ME.

That just annoys me because i bet if i said “why dont you support england then?” the tool would say “because obviously Im not from England!” but then that begs the question “WHY DO YOU SUPPORT ARSENAL THEN?! you aren’t from England!” If your not from england the by all means follow Arsenal but don’t ever go thinking you are an important fan or that you have any right to moan about player comments and never moan about things like not spending money on signings because you do not contribute to Arsenal by sitting with us week in week out at the emirates! go and support the team from where you are from! Come on then Africans etc, lets have all the abuse saying I’m racist or something stupid lol.

WTF are you talking about ?? I can understand if Jackie were choose to win a WC with England rather than winning CL with Arsenal.

But “WHO ARE YOU” then, for not allowing us, non-British fans, to support Arsenal ?? Don’t you dare acting like you own this club !! Stupid !

We do own the club cos we’re the ones sat there week in, week out paying for tickets to cheer the team on. You watch the match on an internet stream when you remember they’re playing and come on these forums acting like you deserve a say! go and support your local team cos you bring nothing to the table here.
