Poldi’s A Gooner – Arsenal Finalise Podolski Deal After Successful Talks In Germany

Lukas-Podolski-Germany

Morning Gooners. Another development on the Lukas Podolski transfer saga today as the Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal finally sealed the deal over the weekend.

We have been heavily linked with the German striker, known as ‘Poldi’ in his homeland, in recent weeks but speaking at his weekly press conference on Friday, manager Arsene Wenger denied a deal was close. (source: Sky Sports News)

However, the Daily Mail are claiming that Arsenal sent a delegation over to Germany on Friday to meet with Cologne chiefs in order to thrash out the finer details of the deal. They say the talks were successful and a £10.9m deal has now been agreed with the 26-year-old set to sign a four-year contract worth £100,000 per week, and the the deal will be officially announced towards the end of the season.

How accurate is this report? It’s hard to say. I think we’re safe to assume that our interest in Podolski is genuine and judging by what Per Mertesacker said last week (see here), the player is also interested in coming to London.

There has been so much talk about this transfer, the signs are good that he’ll be a Gooner in the summer. But we’ve been here before. Alvarez last summer was just one in many transfers that were ‘done-deals’ only for the player to never arrive at the Emirates.

So, as always, enjoy the rumours and gossip but let’s not get too excited until the deal is officially announced.

Of course! With the way we do business at Arsenal, best to keep the Champagne corks on till an official announcement is made. Juan Mata is another of such ‘done deals’ that was instructive for me.

There was no statement from Arsenal, nor AW nor Podolski saying that the deal was done. it’s only journalists who are making stories and the Arsenal fans are starting to be upset because Arsenal didn’t sign him yet. what the hell are you doing arsenal fans, you read any story and you beleive it. so tomorrow if a journalist says that a contact has been signed between Messi and Arsenal you would believe it. stop dreaming and let the club do his job, they know who they will bought and they will do if everything is good for ALL the parties. Arsenal fans seem to dream about 4 names and they really believe that the club would sign them and then if one or all of them have not been signed you would be dispointed and will scream loudly that the club is not good and the manager is bad and blablabla. Support your team and stop making and believing your own stories.
    Gooner 4 ever !

Hopefully the management will now work on the next targets, Hazard and Goetze. Hazard will be difficult now that MU have come very strongly into the picture.

I think its a done deal. If you are a true Gunner i bet by now u have learnd not to trust wenger on what he says about transfers. In the press confrence after the 8-2 thrashing by man united A.W said arsenal had no chance/not intrested in Arteta and two days later he was a Gunner.
If your top player is linked with a transfer to a big club like arsenal, and neither the manager nor the administration dinies it what does that tell you? A LOT. Read between the lines!
