Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Watches £5m Defender

The latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates is Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour, with Arsenal linked with a £5m summer move for the defender.

Aymen-Abdennour-Toulouse-Tunisie

Morning Gooners. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, the speculation over who Arsene Wenger will bring in is mounting.

The latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates is Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour, with the Sun claiming we’ve been monitoring his progress for over 6 months and Wenger will make his move this summer.

The report states that scouts were present to watch the 22-year-old in action during a 1-0 win over Rennes on Sunday, and the Tunisian international will cost as little as £5m.

Abdennour is relatively unknown and a far cry from the marquee-type signing many fans are hoping for, but he was impressive at the recent African Cup of Nations. He is a beast of a player, standing at 6 ft 2 inches, and can play in a variety of positions, mainly left-back or centre-back, so would be a useful addition to the squad.

I would still prefer to see Jan Vertonghen arrive at Arsenal this summer, but Abdennour would be a very Wenger-like signing wouldn’t he? Unknown, plays in France and cheap!

He doesn’t normally play centre back.He is an attackingly-minded left back who started his career as a left winger. We already have Gibbs and Santos covering this side of things and there’s NO way Wenger is contemplating to buy a third player in this position. For 2012-13 Henderson will be the 3d choice left back in Arsenal’s squad.

i dont think anybodys fooled with gibbs, hes injury prone and can go for me and take the other sick note diarby if we recieve 5 mill for pair we should take it and invest in abdennour cant be worse than them two.

Dennis Bergkamp, Thomas Rosicky, Robin Van Persie and greats like Ronaldo (brazil), Zidane were all injury prone coming through their early 20’s and became stronger for it. Santos is our first choice LB Gibbs is an England international that on his day kept C.Ronaldo quite. i dont get people who want to get rid of young players with injury problems for them just become world class somewhere else. Diaby though i do see the point as he has been given the chance to show his potential and not only because of injury simply hasnt done enough.

This is reported by the ‘sun’ it isnt true. Arsen has 4 CB he wants to keep at the club but will probably invest in 1 more (Hopefully) and if he does it will be big name signing.
i see AW making 3 or 4 signings this summer 1GK 1CB 1WG 1ST. The focus will be on Keeping players fit and selling players who are not performing.
GK- a experience back up to keep Szczesny on his toes
CB- Vertonghen does seem like a good choice investment, loyal and has friends in Arsenal.
CM- i do not see us getting a CM, as much as people want Gotze we have WIL,ART,SON,RAM,ROS,BEN,DIA,CHA and with all his natural talent £30M(probably rising after Euros) and unproven.
WG- i see us investing on the wings as we have GER,WAL,CHA but thats pretty much it.
ST- our strikers due to lack of matches and game time so under perform i see CHA wanting to move on to get game time as he is now 29. if we dont get Podolski we should get a player very similar as he can also play left will mean more game time and more consistency.

what is it with Wenger and unknown players. why does he keep buying players that haven’t played in big leagues like premier league. i know he has bought some good players in the past and turned them into stars but why can’t he just buy a player that is famous and proves that he can play in any team. Wenger always buys cheap, young and unknown players and then he spends 3-4 seasons until they become good. but the majority haven’t (chamak, squallaci, djourou, diaby etc) that’s why we haven’t won anything for 7 seven season.

    podolski
    m.suarez
    giroud
    eden hazard
    montolivo
    m’vila
    gotze
    vertonghen
if we buy these players then arsenal WILL be ‘invinsibles’ again like 2003-2004. but i can’t see it happening. Wenger is just goinf to buy cheap rubbish players e.g. chamak

5 of those players play in leagues very similar or the same as the one Chamahk came from?? and last summer arsen brought in Mertasacker Germany’s No.1 CB Santos a Brazil international LB, Gervinho Top goal scorer in france Chamberlain (im sure your not gunna complain about that signing) Benayoun VERY HIGH PL experience and Arteta even higher PL experience?? the window before that it was Arshavin when he was one of the best in the world and Kozza who is now arguably our best defender, im confused.. what unknown players are you talking about exactly?? i just see a list of players the Daily Mail has linked us with, no doubt you have looked at their best bits on youtube and think that you are a top world scout RIDICULOUS comment. what unknown player signing hasnt worked out exactly?? Chamahk lacks game time but would you drop VP right now i dont think so, Park was never bought to replace VP or Chamahk just back them up in case of injury Jenkson is Sangas back and has done well when called upon and i dont know any more unknowns help me out

all arsenal needs is jan verto…,hazard, podolski we will be on top of the world with this addition and keep our squad together because of injury during the season we don’t need to sell out only uncle squillaci and aluminia that needs to go.I see diaby having better days ahead in an arsenal jersey he always perfoms well in that fab’s role

I am happy with the way arsenal is going at the moment. We need to keep our good players together and and sell those few who are not performing as expected. To strengten the squad: get a new good striker who is a natural goal scorer like Van persie (bcos gerviho is not), bring Samba back into premiership to man the back with Vermaelen. If wenger can do this and keep them together, arsenal will become invisible once again.
