Meulensteen Confirms Interest In Eden Hazard
Manchester United are the latest club to confirm their interest in Lille starlet Eden Hazard, and join the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham.
Manchester United are the latest club to confirm their interest in Lille starlet Eden Hazard, according to Sky Sports News.
Hazard has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham in recent months (source: ESPN), but now United coach Rene Meulensteen has confirmed that manager Sir Alex Ferguson rates the 21-year-old highly and has taken time to watch the Belgian ace in action for himself.
Meulensteen is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying that while Fergie is keen on Hazard, he will take his time to assess the players character before deciding whether to make a move.
“The manager wanted to see (Eden) Hazard by himself. That’s a sign he thinks it’s an interesting player. We talked a lot about him,”
“For a club it’s important that you keep refreshing your squad.
“Hazard is a special talent, but it always takes a while. As (an) example, we followed David de Gea for a long time before we got him.
“Ferguson wants to know the character of the player. Because of that he’s going to look himself for players. Hazard is ‘the man’ at Lille. Ferguson wanted to see if that had an influence on him.”
Hazard himself has previous stated his interest in moving to the Premier League at the end of the season (source: Sky Sports News), and there is little doubt that he will have a host of clubs scrambling for his signature.
With big-hitters Chelsea, United and City all in the mix it’s going to be very difficult for the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to compete on a financial level. But the Lille ace has hinted at wanting guaranteed first team football wherever he moves, so may choose to turn down the riches of Manchester in favour of playing week-in week-out in North London.
Whatever happens, you get the feeling the Hazard transfer saga is going to be a long one!
