How To Solve Liverpool’s League Woes? Signing This Player Would Be A Start

Liverpool have struggled for form in the league this season and changes are likely in the summer. Here i suggested a player that we should sign to improve things

Roberto-Soldado

This season Liverpool’s league form has been inconsistent and infuriating at times, but in cup competitions we’ve been brilliant and tactically outsmarted teams like Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea. So why have we been so poor in the league?

It could be a number of reasons like the players not playing their best and saving it for the special occasions. For example, the embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Bolton where we had a Carling Cup Semi-Final against Man City 4 days later. It could even be tiredness, poor tactics, lack of ability, etc.

To fix these problems the obvious answer is to buy more players who have experience to prevent complacency or lack of concentration. However, money doesn’t grow on trees and whether FSG will splash out big in the summer is unknown. It’s also unclear whether Liverpool will be able to attract world class players without Champions League football.

Before Damien Comolli lost his job he said there were top European players who were willing to join the project at Liverpool but was he just bluffing? And will Liverpool’s next Director of Football be able to sign the players we need?

The names being thrown around for the job are Johan Cruyff, who will employ his ‘total football’ philosophy to the club. And Txiki Begiristain formerly of Barcelona who’s made some average acquisitions like Henrique, Alexandr Hleb and Dmytro Chgrinskiy but also bought David Villa, Daniel Alves, Yaya Toure, Ronaldinho and a lot more. So, he has a decent strike record.

Where can Liverpool strengthen the team? Well it’s interesting because all positions have at least one back-up, but of course up front is where I’d like to see a new face and if there is only one big ‘marque’ signing in the summer, I’d like it to be up front. I’m not going to throw names around, instead I’ll give you the name of someone both appropriate and possible.

I like Roberto Soldado, he scores goals (more than Carroll and Suarez) and is as professional as they come. Also it’s a realistic signing because Valencia need to sell players to service their debt and if they can get enough for Soldado they won’t think twice a bout selling him.

Should Liverpool manage to sign the Spaniard, it raises the question; who’s going to drop out of the team? Unless Steven Gerrard moves back into a deeper lying central midfield position or takes up a role on the right, both of which aren’t his best positions, it seems unlikely we’d be able to accommodate Suarez, Carroll, Soldado and Gerrard in the side without someone being dropped or put in a position they’re  uncomfortable with. The most likely outcome would be Carroll dropping to the bench.

I’ve heard rumours that Dirk Kuyt is going to Feyenoord so that’s a few thousand off the wage bill, but also Joe Cole, Alberto Aquilani and Danny Wilson will be coming back from loans at the end of the season, so I’d expect some players to be sold in the next transfer window to make way for a couple of new signings. Hopefully Soldado will be one of them.
