Riccardo-Montolivo

Arsenal look to have missed out on long-term transfer target Riccardo Montolivo after the Italian agreed a pre-contract deal to sign for AC Milan this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The report claims that the Gunners are one of several clubs who have been tracking the midfielder over the last 12 months, after the 27-year-old refused to sign a contract extension at Fiorentina last summer.

talkSPORT believe that Montolivo has now agreed to join the Serie A champions and will sign a four-year contract worth £2m a season, and it’s thought that he will replace on-loan Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani at the San Siro.

Montolivo has played over 200 games for Fiorentina during his five-year stay and has notched up 32 caps for the Italian national team, so he would certainly have been a useful addition to the Arsenal squad. But despite interest from across Europe, he’s set to extend his stay in Serie A.
