Arsenal fans are eagerly awaiting news on the future of Robin van Persie after the striker held talks with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis on Wednesday. Here is what the papers are saying today.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal’s hopes of persuading van Persie to sign a contract extension hang in the balance after the Dutchman made it clear he’s fed up of not winning trophies at the Emirates.

Wenger was hopeful of persuading the 28-year-old to sign a new contract worth £130,000-a-week, with the promise of new recruits this summer as well as selling the idea of him becoming an Arsenal legend if he stayed. But the Mirror report that van Persie has major doubts over whether Arsenal will be able to compete with Europe’s elite next season and is weighing up his options.

Heading the queue for his signature are Manchester City, who are ready to offer a staggering £250,000-a-week for his services, an offer that Man Utd are also ready to meet, while Juventus are also willing to offer a bumper pay-deal.

The Sun run a similar story, and claim that talks between the two parties were “tense and tetchy” and broke down with no agreement reached.

So at this stage, the signs aren’t encouraging that Van Persie will sign a fresh deal. No decision is expected before the Euro’s start, despite Arsene Wenger’s insistence he wanted his captains future sorted out before the end of this month, and it’s probable that RVP will see how Wenger conducts his transfer business this summer before making any decision.

Even if the striker tells Arsenal he wants to leave, all signs are pointing to the club forcing him to see out the final year of his contract.

Do you think Van Persie will be at the Emirates next season? Will he sign a new deal? Get involved in the comments section.

The chances of him, RVP signing r bc’ming slim. However if he doesnt then sell him. Arsenal will survive without RVP. Just look a step back, this season has been better of without Fab and Nasri. We shld focus on the journey ahead

    lol @manzy.

We have just knicked it without fab and nasri. The players were on the verge of leaving. Let RVP go, and we will be left with Diabys and Denilsons, and Djourous.

I think the media is making a meal of all this. This is the only season in which he hasn’t suffered from injuries. We cant tell for sure that he will remain fit like this. Speculations about all this must stop. Lets wait until everything becomes official.

Agreed about the injuries. RVP is just off a very special season but one cannot forget the preceding string of partial campaigns. I really enjoy his game but would not be overly disappointed if he elected to change clubs.

lets all pray that he will stay. Its not right being a selling club year in year out. And i believe he is staying, add some signing and this will be our season.

all gunners should know that its the wish of every player to win trophies its part of the game.just look at nasri and clichy they are ahead of RVP now cos they have won a trophy infact the league.if we want him to stay its so simple wenger must buy more quality players who will win us a trophy next season then he can be convinced to stay.this is so simple.all we know is to finish in the first 4 but that is not good enough 4 a big club like arsenal we need trophies

Here we go again, its going to be a long summer then he will leave.
Money talks the best thing he can do is do it quickly, so the fans don’t have to endure another summer like last year. He’s an Arsenal fan so put us out of our misery as humane as possible.
    Thanks for last season.

unless there are any qoutes from the club or RVP just disregard any speculation. The meeting was good in that it shows the clubs intent to keep/negotiate with him and possibly demonstrate their plans for next season. It was his opportunity to listen and perhaps state his intentions.
Untils quotes come out there no point in looking deep into this. Its a headline grabber at the end of the day until we know.

If RVP wants to leave there is no way they will hang on to him. They won’t want to force a tranfer request because that clearly sends the message he doesn’t want to play for them again.

They should take the £20m from City and move on. His age dictates the fee. They should use the money to get an early replacement.

I’ve never believed he would stay. Let’s face it, you can’t get trophies unless you buy them (and i don’t just mean Man C) but let’s hope he doesn’t go to another EPL club.
I wish we had the likes of Levy at Spurs. No way will we see Bale & Modric going so easily. Also i had to laugh at Mancini when he said he wouldn’t bid for Bale because “why would a top club let such a player go?”. Yet he will bid for RVP from a club who have always finished above that “top” club since the EPL started.

    It’s quite simple really..

RVP will be asking, “who are we signing this year to be competitive next year?”

AW will be replying, “That is not important, What is important is our solidarity, our togetherness and our focus to do well next year. Robin?…Where did Robin go Ivan?”

You just know how this is all going to pan out because it’s been the same for years. We Arsenal fans need to realize that Arsenal are no longer the team they were and are powerless to compete with United and City financially. We have become a “middle of the road” team because our self sustaining model for the club will never bring in big money or players.

If RVP wants to win silver wear then he would be better off moving away. He’s not in it for the money!!!

    ATB RVP!!

Great season from Robin, cannot remember him having a previous injury free one.Far too many other injuries in the squad.Purchases in January got us to 3rd they were not regarded as ‘Messi or Ronaldo quality, but it goes to show you don’t need those type to do well.If we had had those at beginning of the season it might have been different. If we can get back to fitness those out Diaby, Wilshire and a full fit defence with replacements and now a new centre forward we could have some silverware next year.
Someone should remind Nasri, when we played City last they had only one attempt on goal, a poor header, we should have won 5-0, with our squad at full strength our time to win trophies will come.Hopefully Robin will stay at least one more year, I think he owes the Gunners at least that!
