Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Target £26m Goal Machine

By on May 31, 2012

With the summer transfer window set to open, we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest Arsenal transfer news. Today, the Gunners are linked with a move for an African goal machine.

Seydou+Doumbia

Arsenal are interested in signing CSKA Moscow hitman Seydou Doumbia, if reports in the Evening Standard are to be believed.

VOdds

The Ivory Coast international had an excellent season in Russia, scoring 38 goals to help guide CSKA to a third place finish.

His goal scoring exploits have attracted the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs and the Standard report that Arsenal are among the sides interested in signing him. They claim the Gunners will hold talks with the 24-year-old and Arsene Wenger will hope to strike a deal and reduce Moscow’s £26m asking price.

Doumbia has previously expressed his desire to move to Europe to play for a top club in the Champions League.

“I am ready for the Italian championship, but also for Spain or England”, he said.

“I want to make the next step in my career. I want to play in the Champions League.”

Doumbai is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard

FT Verdict

I must admit, i haven’t seen much of Doumbai and don’t know that much about him, other than he knows where the goal is! 38 goals is an impressive haul, no matter what league you’re playing in.

However, with CSKA said to value him at around £26m, i can’t see him joining Arsenal unless the Russian’s considerably reduce their expectations. Wenger would sooner go for Giroud at half the money.

Any striker scoring that amount of goals will do for me and my beloved Arsenal as we can forget about Giroud because any player who says my future will be sorted after the Euros is really a mercenary putting himself in the shop window for the richest to buy

The same applies to Mcvilla in my opinion………

What I should have added in my last mail is that these mercenary players are quite entitled to try and get as much money as they can because a football career doesn’t last long but we need players who really want to join us who are happy with a reasonable amount of money and love our style of play.

Arsene Wenger should spend for Arsenal to win trophies.Sign players like M’Vila,Giroud,Vertonghen and maybe De Jong and we will be contenders next season or spend little and Arsenal go for another trophyless season.

All getting excited about nothing . wenger now has a loser mentality. And even if he was inspired to try buy someone, gazidis is totally out of his depth in doing a deal. This will continue indefinitely. Kroenke is an incompetent low calibre fraud, out to plunder our cash. his achievements are down to his wife s money and Walmart related property deals.

all arsenal needs is experienced squad a sizeable nomber that can cover 4injuries n burnout and not 20and30milion euros rated indivituals. By the way how much did the demba’s n cisses cost newcastlew? Think about that.

i don’t seem to understand some fans when you just pick the keyboard or keypad and tell wenger to buy this and buy that, have we sold the deadwoods in the squad or where do you want them to play? We don’t have arsenal B like barcelona in England. Mvilla and biglia in the same squad will cause catastrophy, when you still have song, wilshere, arteta, rosicky, OX, and crocked diaby playing in the same department.

I wonder why Wenger iz so reluctant to let out the club’s money. If we are told that he gave out a late bid of £30m for Goetze, why cant he just do that on a quality signing now? If he sticks that he wont spend more than £15m which was Arshavin’s price then for sure arsenal wont compete. Am just tired and bored, Wenger wake up and see wht your colleagues are doing!

TBH i cant see Wenger signing another Striker with Podolski signing a deal + if we manage to keep RVP + all the wingers we have…I want to see Wenger signing some defenders.

Exactly right. Arsenal conceded the 8th most goals in the past season and it’s not because of our forward or midfield. We just need to sort out our defense and I’m positive arsenal will show signs of winning something.
