Man Utd Transfer News: Fergie Targets £14m Dutchman

Manchester United are weighing up a move for £14m-rated PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman, due to increasing concerns over the fitness of Darren Fletcher

The summer transfer window is open and Football Talk will bring you all the latest Man Utd transfer news. Today, United are linked with a move for a Dutch midfielder.

Kevin Strootman

Manchester United are set to move for £14m-rated Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman due to increasing concerns over the fitness of Darren Fletcher, according to the Mirror.

Fletcher is currently taking an extended break away from football due to a bowel condition that ended his season in November, and no date has been set over his return.

Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be hopeful the Scotland international will still make a full recovery but with no guarantees over his long-term fitness, the United boss is eying potential replacements.

The Mirror report that Fergie has been tracking Strootman for some time and has been impressed with the PSV Eindhoven midfielders combative style of play in the middle of the park.

Strootman is currently away with the Dutch national squad at the Euro’s but is facing an uncertain future at PSV after Mark van Bommel sealed a return to the club, and is likely to take the 22-year-old’s place in the starting eleven next season.

Ferguson is hoping to take advantage of this situation as he looks to add a physical presence to his midfield this summer. The player’s agent has said his clients future won’t be discussed until after the Euro’s but it’s believed Strootman would be open to a switch to the Premier League.

    man united should add:
1.good playmaker ideal long term replacement for scholes….that would be sniejder/modric
2.holding midfielder…flether career at man utd is doubtful due to injury and come back next season isnt possible.So..strootman/javier martinez
3.right and left full backs..evra is ageing and rafael is rather sloppy sometimes…so cant take risk if you want to win the league next jordi alba/baines at left
and maicon/clye/van der wiel at right
4.a young winger …so that he could possibly replace ryan giggs in near future…so gaitan/munain wud be great fit

United have already signed Kagawa and Modric is possible on the way, Stroosman would be a great replacement for Fletcher, Rafael is a fine player and has improved ten fold recently reaching a solid international spot, Alba is most certainly joining Barca, Maicon is in his 30s so NO, clyne yes, VDW is shaky and is probably looking at chelski or real madrid….and finally james rodriguez is probably a better fit than gaitan or munian.

Not that it is realistic, but if you’re talking about a replacement for Paul Scholes I think it’s only right to put Mesut Ozil in the conversation. I haven’t seen someone with his craft, vision, and balance since Zidane retired. Granted he does dive a fair bit… :/

We have needed a Roy Keane type of player for years.
It is essential if we are to challenge again in the Premier league and indeed go further in Europe – this type of player is a must. Kagawa is a good addition but we do need someone else in Midfield – I hope this isnt just a rumour!

With Kagawa signed and Modric on the way and hopefully the likes of Nick Powell coming in and possibly robert Lewandowski, i think we need a player like Strootman to control the game like Roy keane did with modric linking the play up and kagawa in between the lines setting up and scoring goals!!!

mid field had been man us strength for quit some time until lastyear. Its good to sign him in addition to a defender. Its not neccessary to add a striker as rooney will have no need to come to the mid field in search for the ball. A good move if t

Modric is NOT on his way to united even thou most united fans including me what him. he doesnt fit the new transfer policy in terms of age also the price tag will be much more than the 25-30 million splashed over the papers.

in what universe is snjeider (spelling?)
or modric a long term replacement?? also their cost and wages are both high. this is players id welcome: kagawa, strootman,
clyne, willems, lewandowski, possibly another young playmaker like gotze even though he would cost a lot. and i agree rodriguez would fit better than gaitan/munain.

that is the person missing in our lineup to get back the tropies we need, remeber, 2011-2012 isa without a cup, Please, Sir Fagurson, never leave him, he is worth even considering his age, he has the potential, alternative give Pogba a rise in pay, he might remind, he has the defensive midfield ability and leave the flopy Nani go, james R in. keep uited a superior club 4 ever
