Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Hold Further Talks Over £20m Deal

Chelsea are set to launch a fresh bid to sign versatile German forward André Schürrle which may spell the end of Daniel Strurridge’s career at Stamford Bridge

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Chelsea plan a fresh move for a German international.

André Schürrle

Chelsea are set to launch a fresh bid to sign German forward André Schürrle which may spell the end of Daniel Strurridge’s career at Stamford Bridge, according to The Telegraph.

The report claims that Chelsea had a £17m offer for Schürrle rejected by Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week with the Germans publicly insisting the 21-year-old with stay at the club.

However, it’s understood that further talks between the two clubs were due to take place on Tuesday night and Chelsea were ready to return with an improved £20m bid.

The European champions initial interest in Schürrle came under former boss Andre Villas-Boas, with the Portuguese boss seeing the player as a future signing. But despite the exit of AVB from the Bridge, the club are still keen to press ahead and try and lure the German star to London this summer.

Schürrle is comfortable playing in a central striking role or as a winger on either side, so would provide Roberto Di Matteo with plenty of options in the final third next season. The Telegraph also claim the Blues have agreed a £22m deal to sign Brazilian Oscar, with the transfer expected to be announced soon.

Should Schürrle also move to West London, he would join Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Oscar as the new recruits this summer in what could pose to be a devastating attack next campaign as owner Roman Abramovich plans an assault on the Premier League title as well as trying to retain the Champions League trophy.

The move would however, bring with it real question marks over the future of Daniel Sturridge. The 22-year-old is recovering from viral meningitis but has previously expressed his frustration at playing out-of-position at Chelsea and saw his first team opportunities limited when Di Matteo took charge.

The signing of Schürrle would further increase the competition for Sturridge and could well spell the end to his career at Stamford Bridge, with Tottenham and Liverpool among the clubs monitoring his situation.

I dont understand all this when we have sturridge. Give the guy some time up front. He had a good season, selfish at times but helped us win games when no one else did AND he’s already our player. Use the money to strengthen elsewhere

i agree with u 100% john i’m so grateful u made that comment we don’t need Schürrle who to tell if he’s better than sturridge cuz far as i’ve seen him he’s not so what do we need him for it would b a mistake to sell sturridge for this guy n i know if they do chelsea would regret that decision!!

Dortmound paid 17m for Rues, is he bitter than Rues?? when Blues are involved why the hell their price swings up! i would rather prefer Moses or Walcott who are available between 10 – 15m and they both are an established ans proven players.

we already have sturridge, we dont need this guy. Why waste money Di Matteo needs to tell Sturridge not to be selfish, and most of all let him know he is very much part of his plans.

Honestly i would’ve prefered Hulk, but then Schürrle isnt a bad player, plus he brings options as he can play as RW, LW or CF.
Moreover, he is of d same age with Sturidge, so its a healthy competition as it might even help Sturidge improve, let d best man start d games.
    We still need Maicon.

Frankly speaking yesterday i posted a comment that signing oscar means the end of rumours about modric and moses. And i was hoping hulk would be the only remaining target other than a right back. But this article makes me feel that we have lost interest in hulk, and decided to use that money elsewhere. Although i’m happy that the money is spent on good talents like oscar and this guy.

Just read an interview from romeu and i’m very disappointed with what he said. It was reported that barca wanted to activate his release clause, and romeu is keen to return. He is ready to dumb us and join barca. So, should we have a replacement for him? i’d suggest we sign players who are solely ready to play for us. Can anyone suggest me..?

Hulk is overrated and way overpriced for his abilities. Buying Hulk would be a waste of money. Hulk disappears in the big games and all he can do is shoot from way out. Schurrle can play multiple attacking positions has time to develop and is way less expensive. This guy is a good player and i think he would fit in well at our club.

Serious money is involved in transfer. Let’s play with the one we ve had already. I’ll only suggest jus a striker for drogba’s replacement. Loan lukaku & pls, sturridge should be sold.
