Koscielny Signs New Long-Term Contract With Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed today on Arsenal.com that defender Laurent Koscielny has signed a new long-term contract with the club after another excellent season.
Arsenal have confirmed today on Arsenal.com that defender Laurent Koscielny has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
After a difficult first season in the Premier League following his move from Lorient, Koscielny’s form drastically improved last season and he soon became one of the most consistent performers in the squad.
His fine form has seen him break into the France national team set up and was involved at this summers European championships, starting in their quarter final defeat to France.
Manager Arsène Wenger has praised the defenders development in recent years and expressed his pleasure that Koscielny has tied himself to the club. Speaking to Arsenal.com, Wenger said:
“Laurent has been outstanding for us over the last two seasons. When you consider that until 2009 he was playing in Ligue 2 in France and that he is now performing at the very top level in the Premier League and for his country, the development that he has shown has been absolutely exceptional. Laurent is a top-class player and I am very pleased he has decided to commit his future to the Club.”
Laurent himself told Arsenal.com:
“I’m delighted to have reached agreement with the Club. I have had a fantastic time here and look forward to an exciting future with Arsenal.”
I’m delighted Kos has committed his long-term future to the club and he fully deserves his new deal, which will no doubt include a significant pay increase. If he can continue the form he showed last year, he could form a solid partnership with Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of our defence.
