Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini has denied that Santi Cazorla is heading to Arsenal in a €20 million deal, according to ESPN.

Malaga signed Cazorla from Villarreal only 12 months ago for €19m, but the Spanish outfit have since suffered financial issues, including non-payment of players wages, and their debts have spiralled out of control.

This has lead to speculation over the futures of several first team players with the club believed to be willing to sell some of their more valuable assets to pay off their debts.

Cazorla has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and ESPN claim the Gunners have agreed a €20m deal to sign the 27-year-old this summer, after the player asked to leave the La Liga side.

However, Pellegrini has denied the club would sell their prized asset for just €20m, claiming it would be “giving him away”, and they would be sending out the wrong message ahead of their assault on the champions league next season.

“There is an offer, they say, for Santi Cazorla,”

“To sell him for €20 million would be to give him away. I don’t think the club intends to do that.

“I’ve talked a lot with [vice-president] Abdullah Ghubn and with the Sheikh and this would not be representative of their mentality. It would send out the wrong signal ahead of our Champions League campaign.

“If significant offers come in for players they are worthy of consideration, but I don’t think Santi will be leaving for €20 million.”
