With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with Jack Butland.
Liverpool are interested in signing Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to the Metro.
The report claims new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to freshen up his goalkeeping options ahead of next season and wants to add Butland as competition for established number 1 Pepe Reina.
Rodgers has given Brad Jones given permission to speak with Norwich and Peter Gulacsi is expected to go on loan to the championship next season, leaving him with just Doni as back up for Reina. The Metro suggest the North Irishman isn’t convinced by the Brazilian and is on look out for another No.2.
He has made enquiries about Wolves 31-year-old keeper Dorus de Vries, who he worked with at Swansea, but Rogers is now believed to be looking for a more long-term option and want’s 19-year-old Butland to work under Reina and learn from the experienced Spaniard.
Liverpool sent scouts to run-the-rule over both Joe Allen as well as Butland in Team GB’s 3-1 win over the U.A.E on Sunday, and they were left suitably impressed and sent back rave reports on the Birmingham stopper.
However, the Merseysiders may face competition from Arsenal, Man Utd, Newcastle and Southampton, who have all shown an interest in the England ace in recent months.
The Saints had a £6m bid rejected by Birmingham earlier in the summer, with City believed to be holding out for at least £8m.
