Arsenal midfielder Alex Song is set for a £15m move to Spanish giants Barcelona, according to the Independent.

Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu flew into London on Tuesday to hold formal discussions with Gunners officials in order to try and thrash out a deal.

The Independent claim Bartomeu returned to Barcelona late last night confident he had done enough to seal a deal, which could be completed by this weekend.

The 24-year-old now looks likely to be reunited with former Gunner Cesc Fabregas, who joined the Catalans 12 months ago. Barca play Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup next Thursday, but are hopeful they will have added Song to their ranks before this weekends game with Real Sociedad.

Arsene Wenger seems open to the idea of cashing in on the Cameroon midfielder, despite him still being under a long-term contract with Arsenal.

But it looks like Song is set to join Robin van Persie out the door at the Emirates this summer, which will leave Wenger without two of his more senior and experienced members of his squad heading into next season.

It’s expected that once Song completes his move to Barca, Wenger will step up his efforts to sign Rennes enforcer Yann M’Vila.

i am worried that the message out there is that we are a selling club. we seems to be interested in cashing in and profit but not trophy

I’d sell him. I remember a reading a few years ago how Song thought of Wenger as a father figure. Of course, that was when Song was a fringe player. One decent season and Barce come sniffing and Song jumps ship. So much for loyalty to Arsenal and his ‘father figure’ Mr Wenger. Yann M’Villa will be much more solid at the back than Song and that is probably why Wenger will let Song have his ‘Dream Move’. I think Song will regret it though when he becomes a bench warmer in Spain

Why should we ask him to keep unfaithful player in the squad. Arsenal FC is bigger than any player. We'”ve done without Henry, Viera, Cesc and Nasir. I don’t care if we have to release all these ungrateful element for loyal once. IN ARSENE WE TRUST.

I don’t see the reason why wenger should sell two of his best player’s,we all no that rebuilding a team to a standard is not an easy something it will take almost the hole season. Wenger should think twice before he make the worst mistake ever. Rvp,alex song, walcot keep all of them pls.Am tired of all this rumous every day by day.

Song has reiterated himself that be wont be leaving arsenal and that he is happy, this is all speculation and rumour. Songinho isnt going anywhere. He does love arsenal at least for one more season. When barca come in next year on his last year of contract, then sell him for 15 million and buy etienne capoue for his buy out of 13 million…he’s a ready made replacement, he’s French, he’s young and he has plenty of first team experience, strong, tall…an almost exact copy of vieira

Song is worth way more than 15 million. One of the stand out performers for arsenal last season and definitely one of the most consistent performers in the premier league. He’s worth 22-25 million.

if we can get that up to around £16m plus tello i would take that (cos tello will be better than walcott and provide cover just in case he decides to jump ship as well

add that to the £24m for rvp then go out and get llorente and mvila.

sahin on loan plus yang-mbwia and we will have a far better squad

We have a better squad already. Van Persie left Arsenal last season. he reluctantly played first five premier league games bcos he didn’t believe we could make into first four. Best of luck to him

Whats the point of being an arsenal fan? Once a player doesn’t suck for us they leave.

Last year two best players and others left Arsenal, this year rvp has gone, now, Song is on his way out. To me, it seem what Robin said is true. A team that has ambition will not be selling her best players every year. How can a team win any trophy when the experience players that know the in and out of the team and can absorb presure when the need arises are not there. To be honest, i do not think it a wise decision for Arsenal fc to entertain any negosiition with anybody on Song. Arsenal can not win anything with new players because they have not play together, it will take them some time for them to understand themselves. Those teams that won sliverwears in various contries do not sell their players just the way Arsenal do. For God sake Arsenal should not sell song now until suitable player can replace him. Arsenal should not be made a breading team.

It is easier to sell good players when they are still good so that the club can receive good money for re-investing. Nobody wants to buy a bad commodity. Somebody sold Ronaldo, zlatan etc and sold well because they were good commodities. RVP and Song are better sold when they are still marketable.

Good luck to Song! If his heart (and wallet) is not with the Gunners – then let him go. Time for some true legends to be created at the Emirates. Bring back some of the old brigade as backroom staff – Adams, Keown, Henry, Bergkamp, Seaman…… and then start believing again!!

There’s one big quiz that is yet to be answered, the quiz is, Has Arsenal suddenly become Barcelona’s Feeder team or has Arsene Wenger suddenly become a greedy Manager that he can no longer have the capacity to resist selling his so called big players to his rival clubs ? with the recent happenings in the club, one can only wonder whether Arsenal has become a club that feeds other clubs to win trophies while they continue wondering in the wilderness of ‘ TROPHILESSNESS’. Blues till eternity. Richard Tommy – Rumuodara ( PHC )

    you people are brainless…
just two days ago both song and wenger said he is not leaving. So just because one of the tabloids reports that some barca fool goes to london its a done deal…
and out come the AAA back at it at the drop of a hat!

Unfortunately the truth is that Arsenal have to sell at least two decent players a season for financial reasons which they are not being open about. Otherwise they would definitely not sell to strengthen competitors and each year weaken the team.
