Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he expects more transfer business to be done at the Emirates during the final week of the window, but he will only be adding ‘special’ players to his squad.

Unlike last summer, the Gunners have concluded the majority of their business early with the signings of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud all wrapped up well before the season kicked off.

Arsenal are still being linked with several new names, while there are also fringe players who are expected to leave, and Wenger has confirmed he anticipats movement in both directions before the window slams shut.

Wenger told on Thursday night:

“Some things can still happen,” he said.

“I don’t want make a promise that I cannot keep. It does not only depend on me. But there still could be some action on the transfer market – ins and outs.”

“We are working [in the market], We’ll see what we can do.”

The Frenchman has previously revealed he’s looking to add a midfielder and a defender this summer, but stressed he will only be interested in adding players of genuine quality to his already very talented squad.

The Gunners boss claims he has a clear idea of what he wants to do in the coming days, but whether those plans come to fruition during a busy week is another question.

Wenger told today:

“My approach is that we have a very strong squad but if one or two opportunities arise we will take it,” he said.

“We are still in the market in some positions. We have experienced players in midfield like Arteta, Cazorla and Rosicky plus some young very promising players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Coquelin and one or two in between age-wise like Diaby, who is coming back.

“We will only take players who have something special. We believe we have a very strong team and if we find the special player, we will do it.

“There’s always a lot going on in the last week – in and out. We have some players who can go out, but overall there is always something happening in the last week. I have a clear idea of what I want to do, if it happens, it happens.”

It seems we’ve missed out on Nuri Sahin, who’s off to Liverpool, so if we’re going to buy a midfielder let’s get a proper defensive midfielder in to protect the back four.

If Arsene is going to add two more i”d like to see Yann M’Vila and a versatile defender come in, although i still feel we could do with another out-and-out goal-scorer as well.
