[Video Goals] Montpellier 1-2 Arsenal: Podolski & Gervinho Strike For Gunners

Arsenal got their champions league campaign underway with a hard fought 2-1 victory away at Montpellier.

Montpellier took an early lead when Vermaelen was adjudged to have fouled Belhanda just inside the area. The Montpellier man stepped up to cheekily put the hosts 1-0 up after 8 minutes.

Arsenal drew level in the 16th minute when Giroud sent Podolski clear and the German cooly slotted home for 1-1 before Gervinho made it 2-1 just two minutes later, the Ivorian finishing a Jenkinson cross from close range.

Neither side could add to the scoreline in the second half as the home side pushed for the equaliser but the Gunners stood firm and held out for the three points. Watch highlights and all the goals from the game here:
