Arsenal have received a major double injury boost with the news that both Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong have returned to full training with the rest of the first-team squad.

Wilshere has been on the sidelines for over a year after undergoing two operations on a complicated ankle injury as well as surgery on a long-standing knee complaint this summer.

However, the 20-year-old has slowly made his way back to fitness and underwent a specialised rehabilitation programme this summer and was able to rejoin the rest of his team mates for full training on Thursday.

Wilshere will now be eased back into action with boss Arsene Wenger confirming they will have to take it day-by-day with the England ace for now. Wenger told Arsenal.com:

“We are so pleased that Jack is back in full training. It’s been 14 months and that’s a long time for someone at his age. It’s an eternity, but it’s great news.

“We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That’s the delicate, sensitive stage – to choose when to bring him in and out. We’ll have to handle that day-by-day.”

Fellow midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has also resumed full training this week, after being on the sidelines for over 7 months with a cruciate ligament injury sustained while on loan with Wolves last season.

The boss confirmed Frimpong was back in training and progressing well.

“We also have Emmanuel Frimpong who has returned to full training this week, which is great news as well. Emmanuel has also been out a long time, but is progressing well.”

Suddenly Arsenal’s midfield looks to have real depth and it will be interesting to see how Wilshere integrates into our new look midfield. Diaby and Arteta have been superb and Cazorla a revelation, so it’s going to be tough for Jack to come straight back in.

It’s also going to be interesting to see whether Frimpong is given a chance to impress in the defensive midfield role following the departure of Alex Song.
