[Photo] Chelsea Fan Aims ‘Monkey’ Gesture Towards Danny Welbeck
An image of a Chelsea fan aiming an apparent ‘monkey’ gesture towards Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on Wednesday night has surfaced. See it here.
Just when we thought Chelsea’s enthralling 5-4 Capital One Cup win over Manchester United passed off without controversy last night, an image of a Blues fan aiming an apparent ‘monkey’ gesture towards United striker Danny Welbeck has surfaced in the papers and is now going viral on social media sites.
As you can see from the photo above, the actions of one idiotic Chelsea fan will once again drag the game through the gutter and another ‘race row’ will no doubt ensue.
Chelsea have already confirmed they are investigating the incident, which is the last thing they needed after Sunday’s events involving referee Mark Clattenburg and his alleged use of the word ‘monkey’ towards midfielder John Obi Mikel.
A statement from the West London club read:
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm we are investigating an incident involving a member of the crowd at last night’s game against Manchester United.
“The club will be examining all available footage and asks anyone who can identify the individual to contact the club.
“Chelsea FC is committed to removing all forms of discrimination and if we have sufficient evidence we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution.”
