Bacary Sagna could be the latest first team player to leave Arsenal after talks over a new contract stalled, according to the Daily Mail.

Sagna has just over 18 months to run on his current deal and boss Arsene Wenger is keen to tie him down to a new contract as soon as possible. However, the Mail claim that initial discussions with the players representatives have stalled and another messy, long-running contract dispute looks on the cards.

With this likely to be the last big contract of his career, the 29-year-old wants a significant improvement on the £60,000-a-week he earns now.

The France international is set to join a long list of players who’ve become embroiled in contract disputes with the club. Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy both left for Manchester City in 2011 after failing to agree terms over a fresh deal at the Emirates, while Robin van Persie left for pastures new last summer after refusing to sign a new contract with Arsenal.

Theo Walcott’s future is also in serious doubt and with less than 8 months left on his current contract, he could leave as early as January if the situation isn’t resolved before the new year. Sagna recently voiced his concerns over seeing the best players leave Arsenal ever summer:

‘Everyone was expecting Robin van Persie to leave, but Alex Song — that was a surprise. I don’t understand that at all.

‘It is a big loss for the club. When you see two of the best players from last season leave, you ask a lot of questions.

‘I understand why the supporters are nervous. I am the only starting player left from 2007.’

Sagna is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail

The uncertainty over the right backs future has alerted several clubs throughout Europe, with the likes of Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain said to be interested.

If Sagna does leave the good news for Arsenal is that they have a ready-made replacement at the club in the form of Carl Jenkinson. The youngster made an impressive start to the season while Sagna was out injured and was rewarded with a call-up to the England squad.
