It looks like Manchester United and Chelsea have missed out on Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil after reports in Spain claim that Barcelona have struck a deal to sign the talented 21-year-old.

Rumours were rife that United were closing in on Ozil after Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted at Craven Cottage watching him play for his club Werder Bremen against Fulham at the weekend. Chelsea’s name was quickly thrown into the ring with reports last night suggesting they were the new front-runners but now it seems both Premier League giants have been gazumped by Barca.

Spanish publication Sport claims Barcelona have sealed a deal with Bremen for the signature of Ozil after missing out on Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas. The report claims a fee has been agreed in the region of £10-£11m and all that’s left is for the deal to be formally ratified.

It is no secret that Barca wanted to sign Fabregas this summer but after Arsenal’s refusal to do business, Pep Guardiola has turned his attention to Ozil and the deal could be announced in the next 24-48 hours.

I hope Werder realise that they probably won’t get paid for him.

From what I’ve heard, Guardiola still needs to give the final “OK” to complete the deal.

Yesterday, the word on the street (and media) was that he preferred players from Barcelona B instead of Özil…

Sounds like a ridiculous trasfer fee. 20-25m would be a lot closer, IMO

ridiculous transfer fee? it should be 25 mil? haha, are you serious? For a player that could leave in 1 season for free, 25 million would NEVER happen. Do you know anything about how contracts work? The value of a player is based heavily on how many years are left in the contract.

Anything reported in the Spanish press is probably a load of b****x; look at all the BS they spouted about Cesc this summer. Actually, I hope this goes through for two reasons: 1. Cesc won’t need to even think about gooing there next whenever; 2. Man IOU and Chavski will be miffed.
