Wenger Hints At Henry Return – Will He Be Our Only Striker Signing?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out signing striker Thierry Henry for a third time this January after confirming he’s training with the club

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Arsene Wenger talks about re-signing Thierry Henry.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out striker Thierry Henry joining the club for a third time this January, according to Sky Sports News.

As we reported yesterday, Henry is currently training with us during the MLS off-season to maintain his fitness and match sharpness.

I’m sure you’ll all remember Thierry’s last spell at the club, when he joined on a short-term loan deal last January and further enhanced his legendary status in north London by scoring two vital winners against Leeds and Sunderland.

Well it seems the 35-year-old could be set for a third spell at Arsenal after Wenger refused to rule out trying to bring him back while Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh are away at the African Cup of nations, hinting he’d leave the decision up to Henry.

When asked about the possibility of Herny’s return, Wenger is quoted by Sky Sports as saying:

“He has been practising with us. Three times. Will I sign him again in January? I don’t know – I don’t rule it out. I don’t know if he would be interested.

“This year we will lose Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations again, so we will be short – particularly if Chamakh goes.”

“You know what he gives you. He gives you hope, especially when he comes on. That is the most important thing,” he said.

“He is a communicator. An extrovert. Very intelligent. He can only give good advice to players because he was in their position when he arrived here.”

Henry is arguably in better shape than he was this time last year. He’s enjoyed an injury-free run and scored 15 goals in 25 games in the MLS last season. But as i said yesterday, while i’d love to see Thierry back at the club it must not be at the cost of us signing another striker on a permanent basis.

Arsenal MUST sign a ‘proper’ striker in January to compete with Olivier Giroud and i just hope that Arsene isn’t taking the easy/cheap option to bring Henry back to fill the gaps while Gervinho and Chamakh are away. But sadly, knowing Arsene, i think that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
