Chelsea welcome FC Nordsjaelland to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night knowing victory is essential if they are to have any hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The defending champions are on the verge of becoming the first holders to crash out at the group stages unless they can beat Nordsjaelland and hope Shakhtar do them a favour and beat Juventus.

The Ukrainians have already qualified for the last 16 and only need a draw to secure top spot, while a draw would also be enough to see Juve through as runners-up.

But all Chelsea can do is put in a professional performance and do their bit by beating Nordsjaelland at the Bridge. Interim boss Rafa Benitez is under increasing pressure after a disappointing start to life in West London that has seen him take just 2 points from his first three games in charge.

Team News

Rafa Benitez can once again call upon the services of David Luiz after the Brazilian was suspended for last weekend’s defeat at West Ham.

Captain John Terry remains on the sidelines with a knee injury picked up against Liverpool last month. Midfielder Frank Lampard is back in training after several weeks out with a calf strain but the game tonight comes too soon for him, while striker Daniel Sturridge is also out as he continues to recover from a hamstring strain.

Jores Okore will be missing for the visitors and striker Morten Nordstrand is a doubt with concussion, but is exepected to play. Midfielder Soren Christensen has returned to training following a hamstring problem and is likely to feature.

Predicted Score

Chelsea won the reverse fixture 4-0 and despite their recent woes, we can see a similar scoreline tonight. But will it be enough to see the Blues through? Chelsea 3-0 Nordsjaelland.
