Luis-Suarez-Liverpool

Liverpool are in Italy to take on Udinese in their final Europa League group game looking to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.

The Reds head into the game sitting second in Group A, level on points with Young Boys after they snatched a 2-2 draw at Anfield two weeks ago, but Liverpool will ensure qualification to the last 32 if they win tonight.

A draw would also be enough if Young Boys fail to beat table-toppers Anzhi in the groups other game, however should Brendan Rodgers side taste defeat, it will mean they will miss out even if Young Boys also lose as the Swiss outfit will come out top in a three way head-to-head with the Reds and Udinese.

So Rodgers must ensure his side do a professional job and get the three points, and he has named a strong squad for tonight’s game.

Team News

Star striker Luis Suarez has travelled and is set to make his first start in the competition as he’s suspended for the weekend’s Premier League encounter with West Ham. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson, Joe Allen, and Pepe Reina have all also made the trip and are expected to start.

However, captain Steven Gerrard misses out through illness and Daniel Agger and Lucas Leiva have been rested. Fabio Borini and Martin Kelly are both still injured.

Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin may elect to rest a number of key men as his side have no chance of qualification to the next round.

Defender Dusan Basta is out with a fractured cheek while centre-backs Maurizio Domizzi and Mehdi Benatia are both ruled out through injury. Willians is suspended and striker Luis Muriel is out with a broken leg so Diego Fabbrini could partner Antonio Di Natale up front.
