Tottenham have had an ambitious attempt to take Joleon Lescott on loan from Manchester City rejected, according to talksport.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is looking to add to his defensive options due to the long-term fitness worries over captain Ledley King and Johnathan Woodgate is unlikely to make the final 25-man squad due to injury concerns.

Lescott was only named on the substitutes bench for City’s opener at White Hart Lane on Saturday as Roberto Mancini opted for Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany in the centre of defence. But talksport report that Tottenhams attempt to take the England hopeful on loan for the season was rebuffed as City weren’t keen on him joining a top-four rival.

Ahem pretty obvious one this. We have concerns over king and woodgate so we need a cd. Que spurs look to team with most players and you come up with lescott? Harry would prefer to play heskey in cd rather than lescott who let’s not forget is hardly prem quality or England quality hence Dawson and king and carragher in England wc squad. He’s not worth 24mil and Hughes knew that and so does Mancini. Anyone really surprised that city ‘rebuffed’ our approach if there really was one. Non story guys.

Lescott is quality, he was excluded from the World Cup squad mainly down to fitness and that Dawson merited the initial call-up. I agree he isn’t worth £24 million, but that was down to Everton and Citeh doing business and their desire to purchase him. Had he not gotten injured I guarantee you he’d be partnering Toure.
