By on December 15, 2012

Manchester United restored their six-point advantage over Manchester City after beating Sunderland 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Rivals City moved to within three points after beating Newcastle 3-1 at St James Park earlier in the day but Sir Alex Ferguson’s men responded with a comfortable win of their own. Robin van Persie opened the scoring early on before Tom Cleverley made it 2-0 with a neat finish. Wayne Rooney then sealed the three points after some excellent work from van Persie, with former United old-boy Frazer Campbell grabbing a late consolation for Sunderland.
