Wenger Wants Lopez After Being Put-Off By Expensive Villa Deal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would prefer to sign Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez rather than Barcelona’s David Villa next month, according to the Mirror.

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Arsenal are linked with Adrian Lopez.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would prefer to sign Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez rather than Barcelona’s David Villa next month, according to the Mirror.

The report claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has enquired about the possibility of signing Spanish hitman Villa but is concerned about spending £12m and £100,000-a-week in wages on a 31-year-old who’s only recently returned from a broken leg.

It’s suggested that the boss has decided to target Lopez – dubbed the ‘new David Villa’ – instead, with the Mirror reporting the 24-year-old has a £15m buy-out clause but will command far less in terms of wages. An apparent source told the paper:

“Arsenal have asked Barcelona about David Villa, but the manager has a lot of concerns.

“It is looking increasingly likely Adrian is the man he will go for. He is younger version on Villa and will fit into Arsenal’s wage structure.” A source told the Mirror.

While i’m always dubious of trusting anything claimed by an unnamed ‘source’, it will be interesting to see who the boss does go for in January. Lopez is younger and his reported wage demands would fit in with our wage structure but there is no doubt that Villa would be an exciting signing if he were to come to the Emirates.

I’ve always been a huge admirer of the Barca strikers and would love to see him at Arsenal but I just can’t see it happening, so a move for Lopez seems more likely.

Lopez scored 19 goals for Alteico Madrid last season but has struggled for game-time this term, although he did grab the winner over Celta Vigo on Friday night. He’s a long-way from the finished article but could develop into something special under Wenger’s guidance. Let’s see what January brings but hopefully we can sign a new front man early as we badly need more options in attack.

People are talking or prefering Villa but why is Bac selling him? Can Arsenal afford his wage without demotivating the young players like Walcott, Jack, Carzola etc?

Arsenal has had enough share of the broken legs and the come backs have been un successful like Eduardo, Ramsey and Diaby with players playing with fear etc esp Premiership with its rough players from the northern farmers who just like kicking Arsenal players. Villa, let him try else where.

his a good player but not world class.

he will become just another player in the team we have too many of those players that are good but not world class.

but ofc always the average young player who will be cheap.

and his not a center forward his more of an attacking winger
he will be a good replacement for arshavin
it will be good if we get lopez and someone like llorente.

If Villa was the same player he was 4 years ago, he’d be in the Barca side. He has had plenty of injury problems recently, and signing him would be a massive risk imo. He still seems to do well when he plays but he plays about as much as Rosicky.
Adrian looks good to me, and I think he could develop into a top class player. Worth signing if we can get him imo.
The other we could do with is Mbiwa. He’s better than our current CBs, he can play any defensive position with ease and is a true leader. If he’s available, he’s a must-buy imo.

lopez is no where near villa. He also does play next to currently the best pure CF in the world in Falcao and his assist/goals ratio is tragic.

he’s nothing more than a new jose antonio reyes. wake up people, he’s not even as good as j. saviola.

I don’t really mind getting Lopez in. But I would much prefer Jelavic of Everton. He has everything a striker needs. Good finishing, strength and more importantly he is proven in EPL and will hit the ground running immediately. If we were to sign Lopez we will probably need a few months for him to settle down. I feel he will Only come good next season. Demba Ba is another option. I would like to sign Zaha as well. I would rather have him on the wings than Gervinho.

The signature is would like to see is Wenger on his registration. All this nonsense of a 4th place, it is a tied 4th place with a number of other clubs with better goal difference and still a lot of points off the real top clubs in the league. Best transfer would be Wenger out.

Just what Arsenal needs another Spanish flopper he does not even need to score just go down in the box so Arteta can get more penalty shots.

Just kidding I do not now anything about Lopez have not seen him play. Just making fun of the past 2 wins and the Cazorla dive. Hay 3 points is 3 points.
