Arsenal welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates on Saturday evening and manager Arsene Wenger has given an injury and team news update ahead of the big game.

After seeing our Boxing Day clash with West Ham postponed, Arsenal get back to Premier League action on Saturday evening as we welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates.

Ahead of the game boss Arsene Wenger has given an injury and team news update confirming we have no fresh injuries to contend with and he also gave the latest on Olivier Giroud, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby and Andre Santos.

French striker Giroud and Czech midfielder Rosicky both missed Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wigan through illness but should both be back in contention to face the Geordies this weekend.

There is also some positive news on Diaby, who has been missing for several weeks, with Wenger revealing that the midfielder is due to return to training next week along with left-back Santos who is recovering from a stomach injury.

Arsene now only has Lukasz Fabianski on the treatment table and he’s claimed the improving health of the squad is down to the hard work he and his team put in behind the scenes.  The boss told Arsenal’s official website:

on the latest updates…

We should not have any new injuries from our last game. Giroud and Rosicky should be available again. They were sick at Wigan

on Abou Diaby and Andre Santos…

They should be coming back into training with the squad next week.

on the injury situation with only Fabianski out…

It is unusual, especially at this period of the season. It is down to the continuing good work we are doing behind the scenes at the Club. We hope that it continues because it is important to go into January with a full squad and we will be losing Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations.

So the squad is looking in good shape heading into January but I still feel we need to make some additions during the transfer window, with a striker and defensive midfielder required in my opinion. Let’s see what Arsene brings…

What would your starting eleven be this weekend? Who would you like to see come in next month? Get involved in the comments section below.

I am just wishing to have diaby and rosicky back on the squad. They give us more attacking option better than ramsey.

It’s a welcome development but we need a striker who can move with d ball; a striker like suarez, Torres, Berbatov, etc. They can dribble, hold d ball up front n create chances. A defensive midfielder will b an added advantage too.

Wenger is trying to deceive supporters again with news that these players are coming back to avoid buying players. He does this every year. The guy is too stingy!!!!!!

I think this is one of Wenger’s tricks to not buy a holding midfield player. And later on once the window closes he will say “Oh we’er expecting Diaby to get fit so we didn’t buy a CDM.” Seriously if this happens I personally will lose all respect for Wenger. I’m a huge Wenger fan but I think he is being too stubborn. Even if Diaby is fit I would get a proper back up for him as Coquelin is just not good enough for a team like Arsenal. Why not Arsene get Diame or Sissoko or M’villa or Alou Diarra. Will be cheap as well, but productive.

Haters: you don’t like how arsenal is run? You want to complain and always think the solution is always to buy more players? Some suggestions: chelsea; man city; psg; real madrid. They operate as you would prefer. They have plenty of bandwagon fans so you won’t stand out. Arsenal dont need whining punks who pretend to be supporters.

If he like let him buy or not. When d season wll be finishing wenger wll see wht he has don to him self. Then he wll know dat epl is not for children like arsenal team. Is better for him to start looking who buy before is to late.
