Arsenal & Chelsea Eye Highly-Rated French Midfielder

By on January 11, 2013

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, could Etienne Capoue be heading for London?

Etienne Capoue

Etienne Capoue could be set for a move to London with the Metro reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea are weighing up £8m bids for the Toulouse midfielder.

The report claims the London duo have sent scouts to run-the-rule over the highly-rated Frenchman in recent months and are understood to be lining-up bids worth in the region of £8 million.

However, the newspaper suggests the pair may have to dig a little deeper if they’re to have a chance of landing the 24-year-old tough-tackling midfielder. While Toulouse are understood to be resigned to losing Capoue, the Ligue 1 outfit are said to want in excess of £12m for the player who has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract.

I would personalty love to see Capoue in the Premier League as I’ve been hugely impressed with what I’ve seen of him so far in his career. I regard him as one of the best talents in France and I’d say he’s a better bet than his international colleague Yann M’Vila.

At 6 foot 2 inches, the all-action midfielder has the physical presence to deal with the rough and tumble of Premiership football.

Arsenal could certainly do with a defensive midfielder after failing to replace Alex Song in the summer, and Chelsea could also be on the look-out for a replacement for Oriol Romeu who’s been ruled out for the season with a knee injury, and the duo could do a lot worse than looking to Capoue.

The Metro believe there is an interest there in the player form the Gunners and the Blues, so hopefully one of them will follow up that reported interest and bring him to England as he could be a huge hit on these shores.

Arsenal must sign Capoue. He would be the perfect fit for the team, exactly what we need. A bit of physical presence in CDM. Arteta can then be pushed up and rotate with Cazorla, Rosicky and Wilshere for the CAM role(s).

M’Vila and Capoue are different types of players, so it comes down to what you are looking for. M’Vila is more of a true defensive mid in the mold of Claude Makalele. He isn’t tall, but is tenacious and can distribute the ball. He is exceptional at intercepting passes but doesn’t use brute strength. He doesn’t like to move aup the field a lot, keeps a deeper position. Capoue, on the other hand, is more of a box-to-box player. He is not afraid to move up pitch. He brings a big, physical presence along the back line. He is like a Fellaini-lite. I would take both of them, but I don’t know what style of midfielder Wenger is looking at.

Am afraid Arsenal scout and Wenger are doing a good job by dicovering raw talents for other clubs to buy. I felt this is the right time to buy imposing players to augment the team busy fixtures and the Champiom league but is absurd Wenger is adamant.

Going for capoue is a very good buy arsenal needs a very good marker in the middle a player like him will help defense to do well…then another prolific striker like cavani,Negredo,or remy will do all the magic upfront…….jovetic isco or turan can be additional…….then wenger should offload arshivn,Diaby,Ramsy,…..Arsenal needs winning mentality to stay on top

If he is a good box to box midfielder with physical and fearless presence that can protect our back four and command opponents then he should be signed,LONG LIVE ARSENAL,UP GUNNER.

Pls my fellow fans, help me to plead arsen wenger to resign honourably.this man have nothing to offer anymore,he has run out with ideas.
Can you imagine 8 good years no trophy and this shameless and ruthless man fail to put his house in other even when he is given money to buy proficient players.
EPL is high competitive this season and if care is not taking Arsenal will be find at bottom table.
Look at manu, chelsea, they must deliver one trophy every season while wenger will be telling us that champion’s league slot is our Priority.
Let him be jettison if u ppl want arsenal to move forward.
To be fore arm is before warn!

I don’t know much about this player, but I’m sure chelsea have their eyes planted on marouane fallaini, and with david luiz and fallaini playing together they’d have an afro bonding thing going on
