Emmanuel Adebayor may be set for a dramatic u-turn with the Daily Mail reporting today that he’s set to miss the African Cup of Nations after a fresh bust-up with Togo.

The striker was originally expected to miss the tournament – which starts in South African on January 19th – due to security fears following an attack on the Togo team bus in 2010 which saw three people shot dead after gunmen opened fire on the teams bus in Angola, while there were also understood to be disagreements over unpaid bonuses.

However, the striker was set to play in the 2013 tournament after being persuaded to do so by the Togolese Football Federation but his participation is once-again in doubt.

The Mail are claiming Adebayor has had a fresh bust-up with his country’s chiefs and while they are unclear on the exact details of what lead to the row, they suggest it could be enough to keep him out of the tournament and he may now be available to play for Tottenham during the coming weeks.

The newspaper claims talks are still ongoing to try and resolve the issue while the country’s president Faure Gnassingbe has moved to reassure the squad of their safety during the 4 week tournament.

If Adebayor does stay with Tottenham it will be a huge boost to boss Andre Villas-Boas, who was set to be left with only one recognised striker during his absence.
