Chelsea will look to bounce back after a disappointing week when they take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Rafa Benitez side head into the game off the back of successive defeats including a home loss to local rivals Queens Park Rangers last time out in the Premier League and Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea in the first leg of the Capital One Cup.

The Blues are already 14 points off the pace in the title race so will need three points this weekend if they are to maintain any hopes of retaining the title from Manchester City.

However, they will have a tough task on their hands with Stoke yet to lose at the Britannia this season. Tony Pulis’ side tasted defeat last time out against champions City at the Etihad but it was their first loss in 11 games.

Team News

Chelsea are boosted by the return to fitness of captain John Terry after the defender came through an under-21 match on Thursday unscathed. He’s in the squad to face Stoke this weekend but is likely to start from the bench as Benitez refuses to rush him back after 10 weeks out.

Petr Cech is also back in training and could be back between the sticks this weekend after 3 weeks on the sidelines with a groin complaint.

Demba Ba is pushing for a start after an impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge and may replace the struggling Fernando Torres up front after a poor showing against Swansea in midweek. Oriol Romeu and Yossi Benayoun are both out with long-term injuries.

Stoke boss Pulis has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game but he may make some changes after resting several key men for last weeks 0-0 FA Cup draw with Crystal Palace.

Asmir Begovic and Kenwyne Jones are two players that are expected to return but defender Marc Wilson and midfielder Rory Delap are both definitely out.

Betting preview and predictions

Stoke are in superb form at home this season and are yet to be beaten on home soil, so Chelsea will have to be on the top of their game to take anything away from the Britannia this weekend. Our friends over at Betegy have crunched the numbers and predictably they foresee a tight encounter making it their ‘extreme bet of the week’.

They predicted there is a 35% chance of a Chelsea away win, narrowly tipped ahead of the draw at 34&:

A Chelsea win is currently an even money bet but if betting on the exact score is more your thing, Betegy data predicts a 2-1 win for the Blues which is currently a 15/2 shot with William Hill.

Unlikely Moses will start given that he’s in Africa. Pretty sure ramires will get the nod given that Oscar is too small and both mata and hazard played 90 mins on Wednesday

Rafa, u let ur ego get in the way coz u wnt 2 b the man who revived torres’s career. He is unredeemable. Move on, do away with torres cos it can b useful.

For my money Ba is a better player than Torres. His movement, ball distribution, confidence, close control and decision 2nd to none 4 strika in d EPL. His finishing can b better.

Dis match, MR benites must do away with tores 4 alone striker, now dat moses is not around, and u may used tores as a flank player and ba should stand as a striker in d midlee, and play both hazard and matta 2gether in d midle so dat tores will b moving foward and assist both matta and hazard 4 d midle and in second half of d match u may replace matta with osca bcs matta need rest 4 now! And u d defence acording 2 cole, ivanovich, cahil, eZpicuata, and now using both lampard and ramires 4 d DM ooo!

Hi, mr Rafa you are doing great job at chelsea I don’t if you will get to see but if you can, then pls take it as a very strong suggestion. Pls i don’t see Fernando so confident and 100 percent comfortable playing as a lone top striker anymore I believe he will do better playing from wing (preferably 7) he has good crosses of the ball, can make good assist and ofcourse score from the wing. If not then there should be a change formation so both Ba and Fernando can strike together. Thanks alot

I dont really know what is wrong with chelsea management, they loose out on taison after moses out for nations cup,and torres not at his peak,my advise to mr benitez is that always bench torres for demba ba cos ba is exceptional and has every quality a striker has,i bet you,by starting ba,chelsea will alwys win there matches. As for stoke selection,Turnbull, azplicueta, liuz, terry, cole,–lampard, ramires,–oscar, mata, hazard,–Ba. Stoke 1 chelsea 2

Hi, mr Rafa to safe your job and your name has a good coach, there’s a limit time for every players,i think u should drop torres back to the bench cos his à useless striker, torres is not good has a number one striker in chelsea cos he has no energy and is thinking ability is very slow,is an indiscison striker.torres as lost only one tin in is football career, torres as lost his positioning on a peach as a striker, but for Demba ba is a full complete striker, i think u should give Demba ba the shance to Ba the scoring ability back to chelsea team……..Mr Rafa Benitex to say the fact fernnado torres time as gone as a striker, give it to Demba ba and buy one more striker……Up chelsea Up bluesssssssssss
