Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Linked With Colombian Midfielder

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keeping a close eye on Napoli’s versatile Colombian midfielder Juan Zuniga with a view to making a possible move this month.

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a Colombian midfielder.

Now that Theo Walcott has signed his new contract, it’s time for Arsene Wenger to start concentrating on bringing in some new faces before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. One player he’s keeping a close eye on is Napoli midfielder Juan Zuniga, according to the Daily Express.

The report claims Wenger is looking to strengthen his midfield this month with an ‘enforcer’ who can compliment the talents of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta, and Zuniga is understood to be under consideration.

Arsenal’s reported interest came as no surprise to the 27-year-old’s agent, Riccardo Calleri, who confirmed there is interest in his client from England and Spain.

“Arsenal interested? We know very well that English and Spanish teams at the highest level are interested and are looking at Zuniga.

“But I think it is normal, as is the case with [Edinson] Cavani, it also happens to my client.

“The Colombian is attractive to many teams because he is versatile, can play more advanced, more defensive and could be of great use to a lot of clubs.” Calleri is quoted as saying by the Express

The Colombian has been a huge hit at Napoli since moving from Sienna in 2009 and has clocked up 90 appearances for the club so far. He’s a versatile midfielder who can play on either wing and can also operate in defence, so he’d certainly provide the boss with plenty of options if he does make the move to north London.

I’ve been calling for Arsene to bring in a defensive midfielder this month but i’m not sure Zuniga is our best bet. Personally, I’d prefer either Yann M’Vila or Etienne Capoue but let’s see what the boss brings us in the coming weeks.

Does Zuniga even play DM for Napoli? I thought he was their left wing back, although I know he can play other positions. I’d have thought he might be considered a winger and cover for the fullback positions?

We’ve just given 100k a week to theo who held us to ransom all summer and winter who missed 6 easy chances against Swansea know we’re fed lies that new faces are coming please let’s not see mvilla at QPR cause that will be another player who comes back to haunt eg mata hazard all because wenger slow on his heels to sign the big stars I love Aresnal but we have no leaders in ate team only wilshere if he doesn’t buy no more champions league

Of all you guys who are calling for us to sign M‘Villa, how many have actually seen him play recently? I live in France and watch him regularly. He’s far from the player he was 18 months ago. His development has gone backwards. I can only think that it’s PV4 syndrome. Patrick Vieira was a great player for us and we’ve never really replaced him but M‘Villa’s not the player to do that.

he wont buy any more midfielders whilst diaby is fit. he has no reason to buy a ‘midfield enforcer’ when we have coq and frimpong. he will buy a striker to give us an alternative attacking play, and cover us should giroud become injured. he also realised gervinhos season is essentially over as he will be useless after ACON so will probly go for someone to cover the striker/winger role. then will probably buy another utility defender.
