Liverpool Transfer News: Reina Would ‘Love’ Barcelona Move

The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has claimed his son would ‘love’ to join Spanish giants Barcelona and replace the out-going stopper Victor Valdes.

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, more on the future of Pepe Reina.

The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has claimed his son would ‘love’ to join Spanish giants Barcelona and replace the out-going Victor Valdes, according to talkSPORT.

Speculation over the future of the Reds No.1 has intensified in recent weeks after Victor Valdes confirmed he wont be renewing his contract at the Nou Camp, with his current deal set to expire in 2014.

talkSPORT suggest Barca could cash in and sell Valdes in the summer rather than lose him on a free the following year with Liverpool’s Reina understood to be under consideration as a potential replacement.

Reina’s dad, Miguel, has claimed that while his son is happy at Anfield he would ‘love’ to move to the Catalans and return to the club where he started off as a child.

“Pepe is very happy at Liverpool, but would love to be there again, no doubt,”

“It’s just ‘wow’. It is his home, the club where he grew up and made it. I think he’d be more than happy.” Reina senior is quoted a saying by talkSPORT

He then went on to confirm that Barca were interested in the 30-year-old’s services and the long-serving Liverpool goalkeeper would be ‘crazy’ about the prospect of moving to the Nou Camp if the two clubs can reach an agreement. Miquel continued:

“Above all is that Barcelona wants Pepe’s services,”

“They have coaches who are the ones that decide whether or not the goalkeeper is most appropriate. Then there are the clubs, which are the ones that talk.

“And if there was agreement, Pepe would be crazy to come.”

I actually think Reina would be an upgrade on Valdes so it would be a great signing for Barcelona if they manage to pull it off. Reina has been a loyal servant to Liverpool for over seven years but he would no doubt find it difficult to turn down the opportunity to return ‘home’ to Catalonia.

Will Barcelona follow up their reported interest with a firm offer and will Liverpool even agree to sell? Only time will tell and it looks like we’ll have to wait until the summer to find out.

This is just Reinas father doing his annual stir. he’s been doing it since Pepe joined Liverpool and wont be happy till he gets his way. Old news, move on.

I love and enjoy the fact that when these rumours surface it’s often his dad speaking. I can almost bet that had Pepe’s dad had it his way he wouldn’t be playing for LFC or living in England at all. I can understand that he misses his son however he should also want his son to remain happy and if like the above states he is indeed happy don’t fix what ain’t broken. He is a number 1 goal keeper and on good money in the premier league and albeit Liverpool ain’t what they once were he has still built a legacy in a leading team, a team packing history that he is now involved in almost making it 10 years at 7 thus far. If Pepe goes I wouldn’t blame him but if he stays he is welcome. I am one of those fans that have seen his dip in form but neither do I write loyalty off and 7 years is loyalty so he deserves the dip in form. We’ve had many, David James who also experienced dips in form and Pepe’s coincided with liverpools battle for ownership along with Torres. However James came back strong and so will Pepe only at 30 years of age as a goal keeper. If I was his father I would be proud regardless not pushing him to live for me but to live for himself. If his son says he is happy then stop rocking the mental boat and if one day Pepe decides he wants and is no longer content then offer your advice. However as it stands if my son is happy let it be. I agree with above, his dad would want him anywhere, Real Madrid before unless I stand corrected and now Barcelona. I bet if a team from Holland and not Spanish came in he would say why don’t you stay at Liverpool. His dad is more home sick than Pepe at present
