[Video Goals] Brighton 2-3 Arsenal: Walcott Hits Late Winner For Gunners

By on January 26, 2013

Arsenal were forced to bring on the big-guns to edge past an impressive Brighton side 3-2 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors took the lead when French striker Olivier Giroud found the top corner with a wonderful left-footed strike from the edge of the area after 16 minutes. However, the hosts drew level shortly after when Szczesny failed to get his hands on a Lopez corner and Barnes powered a header home for 1-1 at the break.

The Gunners re-took the lead just before the hour mark when Giroud fired home after being put through by Diaby but Brighton hit back within five minutes later when Ulloa capatalised on some poor defending from Mertesacker to head home for 2-2.

Arsene Wenger was forced to bring on subs Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs and it made the difference as Walcott volleyed home from the edge of the area with just five minutes left to put Arsenal into the hat for the fifth round draw. Watch the goals here:

I’m relieved we avoided a replay but the problem half solved is there. When I saw man-u bench today I knew we are still some ways to go to compete with the best in the land. Wenger should endeavour to sign three key players that will boost the Team ahead of competitions. I felt let down by Wenger when he complained of Magpies new arrivals. Pls let them be & focus on your team. I would not have bothered over bringing in new signings, but Gunners are used to success hence the need to continue.
