Arsenal Looking To Beat Tottenham To German Starlet

Arsenal will aim to beat north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of German starlet Sebastian Rode at the end of the season, according reports.

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal and Spurs are linked with a German youngster.

Arsenal will aim to beat north London rivals Tottenham to the signing of German starlet Sebastian Rode in the summer, according to the Daily Star.

The 22-year-old has been hugely impressive at the heart of Eintracht Frankfurt’s midfield so far this season after forcing his way into the first team last year. Rode has been ever-present to help guide the newly-promoted side to fourth place in the Bundesliga table, meaning they are pushing for an unlikely European place this campaign.

The Star claim his form has alerted the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham while German giants Bayern Munich are also understood to be scouting the player – who is reported to have just 18 months left on his current contract.

Rode has confirmed he’s aware of the interest in him but has revealed any talks over his future have been postponed until the end of the season.

“The interest is known to me. I’ll keep my feet on the ground and not start dreaming,” he said.

“Eintracht Frankfurt and I have agreed to postpone the talks so I can concentrate on my football.” Rode is quoted as saying by the Daily Star

The Star suggest that Tottenham held talks with Frankfurt last summer but were unable to agree a deal for the youngster, and it seems Arsenal will now try and snatch the midfielder from under their rivals noses in the summer.

Rode has represented Germany at under 18, 19, 20 and 21 level but is yet to earn a call up to the senior international side, but if he continues to show the kind of form he’s been producing this season it surely can’t be long before he’s given his first cap.

The midfielder will have just 12 months to run on his current contract in the summer so unless he signs an extension, Frankfurt will have to decide whether to cash in or risk losing him for nothing the following summer, and if the Star are to be believed it seems Arsenal and Tottenham will be ready to pounce should the Germans decide to sell.
