Tottenham beat Arsenal 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday to open up a seven point gap from their rivals and leave the Gunners with it all to do to finish in the top four. Here are Arsenal player ratings from by ‘Lloyd the Gooner’.
We deserved at least a point. We didn’t get it for all the usual reasons. We can see it, can the manager? Here’s ratings from the game at the Lane:
Szczesny 6. Nothing to do and that says it all.
Jenkinson 7. Played well. Needs games to gain experience but plenty to work with.
Mertesacker 4. He is useless. I excuse him for the first half goals. But he is a yard wrong side so often. A liability.
Vermaelen 4. Culpable for both Tottenham goals. Ball watching, bad positioning, poor decision making it was all there.
Monreal 5. Asleep on the second goal. Lennon troubled him too. Not much on offer from him in attack.
Arteta 6. Steady but as usual his lack of pace and physique completely unbalanced the team.
Ramsey 5. Tried hard. But when was that ever enough in a top team. This level is at least two notches too high.
Wilshere 6. Better than any Spurs midfielder but below his best.
Cazorla 7. Deft control and changes of direction allowed him space where others struggled to find it. Decent display.
Walcott 5. Anonymous but to be fair didn’t get any quality service. When that happens though he isn’t good enough to go and make it happen himself. We have too many like that, Podoski is another.
Giroud 6. Willing and honest. Lacks the quality we need to get back to the top. He should be playing in our lesser games and coming off the bench in the big ones not our go-to striker.
Rosicky. Not equipped to change the game so why is he asked to do it?
Podolski. Always a goal in him so why wasn’t he on at half time?
Manager. THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE DONE OR ALLOWED TO HAPPEN ARSENE: The Ramsey blind spot, why are you playing him? Buying poor defenders. Not playing your best one. No holding midfield player. No pace or physique in central midfield. Lack of leadership. Too many players looking for others to do the job they should be doing and a hands on hips attitude when they don’t. No world class forward. A keeper that has to play because there is no alternative. There is so much more.
The board. Suspect the pressure is just about to increase to levels not seen since the last days of Terry Neill. You cannot treat the fans like mugs any more.
