Arsenal Linked With Audacious Move For Chelsea Ace
Arsenal are lining up an audacious swoop for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech with boss Arsene Wenger drawing up a list of potential replacements for Wojciech Szczesny
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with Petr Cech.
Arsenal are lining up an audacious swoop for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech with boss Arsene Wenger understood to be drawing up a list of potential replacements for Wojciech Szczesny, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims Wenger has had the Czech international scouted extensively with the 30-year-old on a six-man short-list alongside the likes of Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes, Asmir Begovic, Michel Vorm and Rene Alder as the Gunners boss eyes potential replacements for Szczesny.
Cech has established himself as Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper for almost nine years and has racked up over 400 appearances for the club since joining from Rennes in 2004, so any move across London to one of Chelsea’s rivals seems highly unlikely.
However, the Mail claim his position may come under threat next season with highly-rated youngster Thibault Courtois tipped to become first choice when he returns from his loan spell with Ateltico Madrid this summer, and Arsenal are understood to be positioning themselves to strike should Cech lose the No.1 jersey at Stamford Bridge.
Whether or not Arsenal could persuade Chelsea into selling is another matter but the fact that Arsene Wenger is prepared to make such an audacious move is surely a signal of intent ahead of a potentially exciting summer at the Emirates.
The news that Arsenal are looking to sign a new first choice goalkeeper will not be welcomed by Szczesny though with the young Pole seemingly fighting to save his Gunners career after just two seasons as No.1. The 22-year-old has been relegated to the bench for the north Londoners last two games, with Lukasz Fabianski keeping two clean sheets in his absence, but the player recently insisted he won’t be looking for a move this summer.
