Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United and Liverpool face competition for Marco Verratti.

Liverpool and Manchester United will face stiff competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, according to talkSPORT.

The 20-year-old only moved to PSG from Pescara last summer but has been in excellent form during his 30 appearances so far this season, helping the French outfit to the top of the Ligue 1 table as well as qualify for the quarter finals of the Champions League.

talkSPORT claim that Liverpool and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move at the end of the season with the duo understood to be keen on luring the Italian international to the Premier League.

However, it appears the English pair will have to fight off interest from Real Madrid with the report suggesting the La Liga giants have identified Verratti as a potential long-term successor for Xabi Alonso – who’s understood to be leaving the Bernabeu next summer.

PSG are likely to do all they can to hang on to the exciting youngster and talkSPORT claim it will take an offer of £30m to persuade the French club to consider selling Verratti this summer.
