[Team] Oxlade-Chamberlain & Lampard Start For England vs San Marino

By on March 22, 2013

England take on minnows San Marino in their World Cup Group H qualifier tonight and boss Roy Hodgson has rested a few key names.

Liverpool midfielder and Captain Steven Gerrard is rested along with Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, so Frank Lampard and Leighton Baines come in. Manchester United quartet Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Nathan Cleverley and Wayne Rooney all start as do Tottenham pair Kyle Walker and Jermain Defoe.

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott misses out with a groin injury and has flown back to England for treatment, so club team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is given the nod on the right wing. Manchester City’s Joe Hart and Joleon Lescott make up the eleven. Here is the confirmed England team:

Hart, Walker, Smalling, Lescott, Baines, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cleverley, Lampard, Young Rooney, Defoe.

Subs: Parker, Foster, Cole, Taylor, Caulker, Milner, Gerrard, Carrick, Osman, Welbeck, Sturridge, Forster.
